Gators Newsletter – Week of July 6 - 12

Welcome to the final week of the regular season!

Meet results from Wednesday are available online. Congratulations to these swimmers who have additional qualifying times for the All Star meet on July 26.

ODSL is tracking the top 30 times for individuals races and the top 10 times for every relay this season. You can see the top 30 after meet 6 here with 32 entries for the Gators. We are also excited to see three Gators relay teams represented. Congratulations to:

  • Savannah Guerrina, Emmy Schutt, Ella Weaver, and Lauren Weber (Girls 8 & Under 100 Freestyle Relay) – currently in 8th place
  • Jackson Ward-Cummings, Jackson Schutt, Ike Harlan, and Micah Irwin (Boys 11 – 12 100 Medley Relay) – currently in 10th place
  • Leah Graham, Irelyn Diemar, Morgan Farmer and Ava Wiese (Girls 13 – 14 100 Medley Relay) – currently in 10th place

Here is the Gators News for the week ahead:

Morning Practices:

  • Monday – Age Group practice and Mini Gators practice as usual
  • Tuesday – Age Group and Mini Gators practice as usual
  • Wednesday – Age Group and Mini Gators practices as usual
  • Thursday – Mini Gators Mini Meet at Potomac Station
  • Friday – Age Group practice as usual

Evening Practices:

  • If your swimmer is unable to attend morning practices this week and would like to practice in the evening, email [email protected].
  • Evening practices this week will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6:00 – 6:45 pm OR 6:45 – 7:30 pm.
  • Please include the practice time you would like to attend with your email.

  • Sunday, July 20: Team Banquet
  • Saturday, July 26 – All-Star Swim Meet (open to qualifying swimmers only)
  • oNote: Swimmers who qualify for the All-Star Meet will continue to practice during the week of July 22 – 26

Treats This Week

  • Wednesday, July 10: Mini Morsels after Mini Gators practice on Wednesday. Mini Gators families, this is being coordinated with you directly.
  • Thursday, July 11: Sweet Treat Thursday – Donations needed
  • Friday, July 12: Donut Friday – We are still looking for volunteers to bring donuts and juice for the second practice on Friday. Thank you, Bovill, Kaiser, Fish, and Kaine families for signing up!

Swim Meets This Week:

We have two swim meets this week!

IMPORTANT: If your Gator(s) would like to participate, you must declare your intent by the deadlines listed below. Changes will not be made at the events.

Swimmers may sign up for a maximum of 3 events (Free/Back/Breaststroke/Fly/Individual Medley) and may be assigned to a team relay (the last events of the meet) by Coach Emma. Please be sure to indicate whether your swimmer is available/not available for relay events when you complete the Meet Entry form.

Wednesday, July 9: HOME vs Franklin Park Stingrays

  • Declare your swimmers by 7:00 pm TOMORROW, Monday, July 7. We cannot adjust the roster after the deadline.
  • Please sign up to Volunteer – There are a lot of openings! Please sign up to help. We need you!
  • Theme: Neon Night!
  • Pool location: 55 Meade Drive SW, Leesburg, VA
  • Pool deck open: 5:00 pm
  • Gators Warm-up: 5:10 - 5:30 pm
  • Stingrays Warm-up: 5:30 – 5:50 pm
  • Officials meeting: 5:40 pm
  • Timers briefing: 5:45 pm
  • National Anthem around 5:55 pm
  • Meet starts: 6:00 pm
  • Meed ends: around 8:30 pm
  • Cash-only concessions will be available.
  • Swimmers must stay in their team area. Staying together will help ensure no one misses a race.

Saturday, July 12: AWAY at Woodlea Watermocs

Inclement Weather Reminder:

  • If the pool needs to be closed due to the weather – practices will be canceled. This could also mean practices may end early on occasion. Please keep an eye on the weather and trust that we will post to the Gators Facebook group and do our best to also send an email notification in the event practices need to be delayed or canceled.
  • During swim meets, lifeguards on duty will determine the safety conditions of the pool and facility. If the pool needs to be cleared, please report to your vehicles immediately and await further instruction. We will follow the National Lighting Safety Institute’s recommendation of waiting 30 minutes from the last sound of thunder or sight of lighting before resuming. Team Reps, in conjunction with the Referee and the lifeguard staff will determine whether the meet can resume.

2nd Annual Greenway Gators and Woodlea Watermocs Racing Exhibition and Community Food Drive

We had such a great time last year that we’re bringing it back! Join us for the 2nd Annual Racing Exhibition and Community Food Drive on Thursday, July 17, benefitting Loudoun Hunger Relief.

How can you help with the food drive?

It’s simple – donate non-perishable food! Each team will collect donations from their respective communities starting at noon on Saturday, July 12, through noon on Thursday, July 17. Which team will have the most donations?

Want to race? Exhibition races will be shared on a Sign-up Genius as we get closer to the event.
