Gators Newsletter - Week of June 8 - 14

Congratulations to everyone who attended Time Trials on Saturday! The Gators are looking strong! We hope all the swimmers are enjoying a great start to the season and we thank everyone who stepped up to volunteer.

Time Trials results are now available online. Do not stress if you see a DQ (disqualification) next to your swimmer’s name. It means the swimmer did not complete their event legally. Several factors can result in a disqualification (DQ) for each event. Receiving a DQ is part of the learning process and something every swimmer experiences no matter how much experience they have. It’s the best way to learn and improve. Coaches have access to DQ information so they can work with swimmers to help them improve. Our goal is to help everyone achieve a legal stroke in all of the events they try by the season’s end.

We also want to thank everyone for being so considerate and picking up all of your trash before you leave the pool. The Tear Down crew is busy putting away swim meet equipment and reorganizing chairs. You helped us leave the pool deck neat and clean so our lifeguards can open for the neighborhood on time. You’re the best!

Reminder: ODSL End of Season Meet Intent

Please respond to the following survey before June 18 to help ODSL plan end of season swim meets. The survey simply seeks to ascertain how many swimmers across the league plan to participate in the Divisional and/or All-Star swim meets in July.

Preseason evening practices continue this week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 pm (6 separate, 30-minute sessions).

Please sign up for practices using Sign Up Genius (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0848ACAC2AA7F94-57055417-preseason#/).

Inclement Weather Reminder:

If the pool needs to be closed due to weather, practices will be canceled. This could also mean practices may end early on occasion. Please keep an eye on the weather and your phones. Coach Emma will send a Swimtopia Text Alert and post to the Gators Facebook group whenever the weather impacts the team.

Swim Meets This Week:

Our first of eight dual-team swim meets will take place this week!

IMPORTANT: If your Gator(s) would like to participate, you must declare your intent by the deadlines listed below. Changes absolutely cannot be made after the deadline.

For dual meets, swimmers may sign up for a maximum of 3 events (Free, Back, Breaststroke, Fly, or Individual Medley) and may be assigned to a team relay (the last events of the meet) by Coach Emma. Please be sure to indicate whether your swimmer is available/not available for relay events when you complete the Meet Entry form.

Stroke & Turn Judges Needed

There is one last in-person training on Monday, June 9, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the Ashburn Library. Or, you can complete a quick, self-paced online course (cost is $25) at www.strokeandturn.com.

If you complete the online training, please email your certificate to [email protected] and cc [email protected] so we can schedule a shadow session for you.

Do you have questions about the Stroke & Turn role? Please reach out to Ben Graham at [email protected].

Become a volunteer Audio Coordinator and join the Gators Sound Team

The Gators Sound Team needs trained volunteers. Your next training opportunity will be Sat. June 21. Please come early (7:00) to learn more about setting up/taking down and running the equipment. Members of the Gators Sound Team who are trained and available to provide backup support will fulfill their 2025 season volunteer requirements!
